On This Date in 1940: Gretchen Christopher, of the late-1950s pop trio the Fleetwoods, is born in Olympia, Wash. (which means she celebrates her 17th birthday today).The Almanac Advises for February 29: "Today's teenagers tend to affect adult behavior at a younger age than ever. So many kids from ages 13 through 19 are are thrilled to, say, affect a grown-up fashion sense or to explore their burgeoning sexuality. The flip side is these teens often take on the worries and stresses of the adult world, even if they are not experienced or emotionally mature enough to cope with it."
