Sweden's iconic punk foursome Millencolin may have gotten its start as Volvo country's answer to Bad Religion, but over the course of a decade-and-a-half, this Warped Tour fixture has grown into a resolute global musical force. Celebrating its tenure, 'Machine 15' (due May 6 on Epitaph), delivers an abundance of shout-along anthems while making some subtle, unique pop inroads."Fifteen is a magic number for Millencolin," frontman Nikola Sarcevic tells Spinner. "There are fifteen songs. It's been fifteen years together. I just hope people like the album as much as I do. I'm really proud of the whole thing -- maybe in a way that I've never felt before."
From the accessible, hook-inflected feel good hits of 'Detox' and 'Come On' to the string-informed 'Done Is Done,' which boasts the Swedish Philharmonic, Millencolin has risen to new heights on 'Machine 15.' Although that's not to say the punk Vikings have done away with their patented musical dynamite altogether as affirmed by 'Brand New Game' and the socially-minded 'Broken World.'
"We hope to evolve on every album, and for the first time we really did things the way we wanted," guitarist/songwriter says. "We have a mix of approaches and it gives it listenability." Well, OK, "listenability" isn't exactly a word, but considering Matthias speaks English as a second language and his band is among punk's elite, we'll let it slide ... this time.
