On This Date in 1966: Gravelly voiced rapper and actor Tone Loc is born Anthony Terrell Smith in Los Angeles.

The Almanac Advises for March 3: "Gargling with salt water is a very effective home remedy for a sore throat. Nonprescription throat lozenges can have a temporary soothing effect, as can both oral and nasal decongestants. If symptoms persist, it may be sign of a viral infection."
