Tegan and Sara's Tegan Quin Launches Side Project

After playing bass on Tegan and Sara's album 'The Con,' AFI's Hunter Burgan is teaming up with Tegan Quin for an electronic-based side project.

"We don't actually have a name, which is kind of funny," Tegan tells Spinner. "We wanted to call it Tegan vs. Hunter but we both have projects and bands, obviously, with our names already. So we were kind of like, 'I don't know what we're going to call it.' We're slowly working on a record. I'm really inspired by it, but it's hard to get it done in between tours."

Burgan and Tegan became "fast friends" after Burgan shared his love for Tegan and Sara's 2004 album, 'So Jealous,' which spawned the hit 'Walking with a Ghost.' "We were going to be hiring a new bass player for the road, so I asked him if he would be interested in filling in when we were making the record ('The Con')," she recounts. "He said, 'Absolutely.' We're just really lucky to have met some really talented, wonderful people over the years."

In the meantime, Tegan and her twin sister Sara are continuing their tour in support of 'The Con,' which also boasts appearances by Kaki King, Death Cab for Cutie's Jason McGerr and The Rentals' Matt Sharp. The set list includes songs from each of the twins' five albums as well as 'The Con' in its entirety.

"I think it's going to be great," Tegan said of the tour that begins in mid-April. "We always make a big deal about picking venues that we think will provide a good show for the audience. It's generally not about money. If that were the case, we'd be playing sh---y clubs across the country. It's way cheaper to bring a show in there. But we generally pick a venue we think will be pleasant and enjoyable for the audience."
