They Will Rock You, Vol. 2: 25 New Artists for 2008

It's an annual pilgrimage: Music industry bigwigs and regular fun-loving music fans rub shoulders in Austin, Texas, at the South by Southwest festival -- where barbecue and the stars of today and tomorrow also converge.

Couldn't get time off from work to join the festivities? No worries: We're bringing a taste of SXSW to you. (Sorry, you're on your own with the Texas spare ribs.) Read about the 25 artists we've selected -- some you may already know and some you should know -- then listen and download free mp3's of their music.

Artist No. 1: Sia

The Deal: Although her hit 'Breathe Me' garnered the attention of television audiences and Starbucks coffee drinkers everywhere, the Australian singer's passionate and peppery vocal style is ultimately what kept people wanting more. A romantic at heart, this blue-eyed blond surely knows how to tug (or tear) those heartstrings.

Sounds Like: Beth Orton, Aimee Mann

Free Song: 'Electric Bird' (MP3)

I have been a fan of Sia for the longest of time....ever since she joined in with the band Zero 7. Anyway, I saw her album Some People Have Real Problems at Starbucks. Its a great album..but you can't expect less from Sia.

I'm so glad Sia is getting the attention she deserves, she is amazing. I'm sure more people will listen to her music and Starbucks promoting her is a big plus.

Sia definitely deserves the number one spot.

Colour the Small One is one of my most played albums of all time, and Some People Have Real Problems is surely to follow in its footsteps. Her earlier work, plus the phenomenal Zero 7, is amazing as well.

I won't hear anything at Starbuck's. They refused a request from American troops in Iraq for coffee. They are opposed to the war. Fine! I guess from their refusal that they are opposed to the troops. It may be fashionable to have coffee at Starbuck's but please remember this.

This rumor about Starbucks from Ken is not true. If it were, it would certainly be something to be upset about. You can do an easy fact check at Snopes.com for any urban legend or mass e-mail that doesn't seem to be realistic, and save yourself potential embarassment from passing on bad information. It's up to all of us to make sure the information we read and share on the internet has passed a basic fact check. Hope you can hear this in the way I intend it - to raise a level of awareness.

In response to Ken Young, it has been well documented that the emails alleging that Starbucks does not support US military troops is just plain false. Please check out snopes.com before you publicly malign the companies, or forward the numerous hoax emails that malign the companies, which really do support our troops.

To Ken Young: You are very wrong about Starbucks. Corporately they may not contribute but each store can and does. Go the Snopes.com, type in Starbucks and you will find the truth.

Nice song, love the production. I'll have to listen to more. Listen to other great masterpieces at www.gershonbradley.com or myspace.com/gershonbradley.

As a servicemember myself, I ask that you research that statement before you make any decisions based on it. It is untrue, and was errantly started by another servicemember that heard it through a verified false claim. I have solicited a few Starbucks stores only to receive MORE than I requested, and my local Starbucks has donation baskets for troops overseas. When I'm deployed, it's one of the few things I can enjoy, and is the reason I visit them frequently when I'm stateside.
