On This Date in 1957: Elvis Presley purchases the Graceland mansion from owner Ruth Brown Moore for $102,500.The Almanac Advises for March 19: "For young, first-time buyers, the starter home is the best way to invest in the 'American dream.' While this entry into home ownership is often an older structure, sometimes what seems to be a temporary or stopgap purchase can become something more substantial, especially if you increase the house's worth by making improvements on it."
