On This Date in 1949: The Cars' vocalist and songwriter Ric Ocasek is born Richard Otcasek in Baltimore.

The Almanac Advises for March 23: "A brand-new car depreciates in value the first day you drive it home. However, its worth will stabilize the longer you keep it around, which may prove to make it a valuable acquisition after all."
