How bold of a move is this?

I applaud Trent Reznor on his bold move towards self-dissemination of his music and eschewing the old world model of label control.

Not really all that bold of an idea. Grateful Dead was already doing this a long time ago, letting people actually record their concerts and give the music away as long as they didn't use it commercially. Great idea anyway, though.
