No Singer? No Problem! Lynyrd Skynyrd
Old Singer: Ronnie Van ZantNew Singer: Johnny Van Zant
A plane crash might've claimed the life of their frontman, but Skynyrd's Southern-fried survivalism simply refused to go down with him. They brought in Ronnie's brother Johnny to take over lead vocals – while wordlessly getting the message across that Ronnie could never be replaced by topping an unused mic stand onstage with one of the late singer's ubiquitous hats.

What, no comments from anybody? Sorry but even though they might still be together, as far as I'm concerned, nobody can replace Ronnie. And his brother knows it, too. That's why in the middle of Freebird, they place a spotlight on an empty mic and just let it go. I always thought that was awesome. Paying respect, even all these years later. Fuckin' right.
