No Singer? No Problem! The Cars

    The Cars

    Old Singer: Ric Ocasek
    New Singer: Todd Rundgren

In a classic sitcom moment, Greg Brady is chosen to fill the role of rock singer Johnny Bravo because, to quote the record-company flack, "he fit the suit." That seems to be the best explanation for the jump-started Cars choosing NBA-size Todd Rundgren as a stand-in when the equally ceiling-scraping Ric Ocasek declined to join the fun. Sadly, height doesn't always make right.

Todd Rundren has 10 times the voice,100 times the talent,50 times the writng skills,100 times the producing skills, and he's a killer guitar, keyboard, just about any instrument player, when he practices, because he may be producing and playing on something like Meatloafs "Bat Out of Hell" album, amoung others. No comparison Spinner morons.

Ric wasn't always the lead singer. The late Benjamin Orr did a handful of The Cars songs. Some of the songs that featured Ben on lead vocals were "Let's Go", "Just What I Needed", "Drive", "Bye Bye Love", and many others. I prefer Ben on lead vocals, although Ric is great too. I'm not interested in the New Cars at all. Nothing against Todd Rundgren. I enjoy Todd's solo stuff, but Ben Orr and Ric Ocasek were/are the only ones I want to hear. The same goes with Journey. I won't pay a lot of money to see Journey without Steve Perry. If Steve Perry ever reunited with Journey, that would be priceless.

The New Cars are hot. Rundgren is the perfect frontman. Ocasek was dull and lifeless onstage. Rundgren is so superior in every way. The band rocks harder than before. Just check out The New Cars videos on YouTube for proof.

There are others to mention. The Hollies replaced Allan Clarke with Mikael Rickfors and went on to record their best album EVER, "Romany".
