Norah Jones Chops Off Her Hair, Goes Indie

Norah Jones has two new matters of interest. First, her hair. Take a gander, folks. The second is Jones' new venture with Conor Oberst's indie label, Team Love, on which she'll release the self-titled debut album from her side-project, El Madmo, on May 20. Featuring Jones as guitarist/singer "Maddie," the trio also counts Daru Oda as bassist/singer "El" and Andrew Borger as drummer "Mo." Oda and Borger are veterans of Jones' backing group, the Handsome Band. Despite being touted as Jones' secret punk band, tracks like the mellow 'The Best Part,' the lilting mid-tempo 'GGW' and the trippy jam 'Head in a Vise' should easily draw in Jones' conventional fans. Just the same, El Madmo's debut features aggressively titled tunes like 'Scary Lady,' 'Attack of the Rock People' and the finale, 'Rock Yer Balls Off.' Plus, that photo of Jones in a short blonde wig on the band's website (http://elmadmo.com/) is pretty rad.
"El Madmo offers escape, justice, karmic postulation, and that feeling you get when you know something that no one else does," Team Love promises. "Starting out as a garage band trapped in the basements of various hockey arenas, theirs is a powerful raw sound that could only be inspired by the smell of Zamboni fuel and sweaty skates."

Norah Jones has a wonderful voice... She is (half) East Indian, and the world's male population are just now discovering the beauty of these woman !!! Good for her in having fun, and stretching herself with her varied talents musically. A nice chance for her fans to get out of their 'own box' we sometimes create, that leaves people unable to accept new twists and turns in life's journey.

Dave....you're an idiot! Short hair does not make a woman look like a "Bull Dike"! There are gay women with long hair and just because Norah Jones wants a shorter hair cut does not mean you can sterotype her. What if your mother got a short hair cut...would you call her a bull dike?

I find it interesting that the men are the ones to comment on Norah Jones looking like a bulldike...wipe your eyes clear and you will see a beautiful woman. Whether she chooses short hair or long hair, Norah Jones is beautiful, and she has a voice to match...Get a life men, I guess all women with short hair, in your eyes, are bulldikes...Maybe you should think before you write...

Hair aside, it sounds like her next album is going to rock. I'm excited - -she's bored me in the past, but it always seemed like there was something edgy and challenging just waiting to get out.

Men are insecure and they need a psychiatrists help for sure. How is having short hair making you look like anything but beutiful? you are showing off your beutiful features and with a pretty face such as this why not show it off! I listened to all three songs at elmadmo.com and they were all hooks (I liked them enough to listen all the way through). I've always loved her voice but her music was a little to "easy listening" for most of my moods and get togethers. This sounds like a great fit. Love the sound. Love the hair. Dave sounds like an un-intelligent, trash totin' ditch diggin' red neck. He may not be but he sure sounds like it!
