Rock Almanac: April 10, 2008

On This Date in 1956: Nat "King" Cole is assaulted onstage by white supremacists during a concert performance in Birmingham, Ala.

The Almanac Advises for April 10: "Proper crowd etiquette should always be observed at a musical concert. While it can sometimes be appropriate for audience members to jeer, boo or hiss during a substandard performance, always keep in mind that the artist onstage is a person first and a performer second. Accordingly, treat him as you would want to be treated."
