On This Date in 1979: 'What a Fool Believes,' by the Doobie Brothers, rises to the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

The Almanac Advises for April 14: "Superstitious beliefs are irrational notions not grounded in knowledge or reason. Superstition usually involves topics such as luck (good fortune or misfortune), spiritual concepts and prophecy, especially beliefs involving supernatural phenomena."
