Eddie Vedder Finally Gets His Golden Globe

When Eddie Vedder won a Golden Globe this year for Best Original Song for 'Guaranteed,' from the movie 'Into the Wild,' there was no ceremony for him to receive the award. But three months later, Vedder, who is in the middle of a brief solo tour, got his honor at the first of two sold-out shows last Saturday night at L.A.'s Wiltern.

While the Pearl Jam frontman was performing a set of songs from 'Into the Wild,' a man walked on stage and said, "Eddie, sorry to interrupt the show, but tonight, under no authority by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, I am here to present Eddie Vedder with a Golden Globe for Best Original Song." Following a standing ovation and chants of "Eddie" from the delighted crowd, Vedder made an impromptu acceptance speech.

"I'd just like to thank the writers for being on strike when they actually gave this award," he said, "'cause the day I got the call, I had just finished a great surf on the Northern Shore. I thought, 'That's the way to get an award.'" He then thanked the inspiration for the true story, Chris McCandless, and director Sean Penn.

The surprise presentation did nothing to stop Vedder's momentum. Armed with just guitars, a banjo and ukulele, he set a humorous tone early, riffing a song called 'Limit Yourself,' in which he sang, "Limit yourself, don't think independently," he joked. "Paid for by the people who support John McCain."
