Original Jane's Addiction Lineup Reuniting for Award

It's been nearly 17 years since the four original members of Jane's Addiction last performed together. Bassist Eric Avery has been the sole holdout, declining to play with the band following their first split in 1991. But that was then. On April 23, the founding Jane's members -- Avery, frontman Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen Perkins -- will reunite for the inaugural NME Awards in Los Angeles, where they'll be presented the Godlike Genius Award for the band's contribution to the evolution of alternative rock."[Reuniting] has been non-negotiable in the past," Avery told Spinner. "It was about trying to get it going again. That's the part that I don't want to do. But now we're getting old enough that we're starting to get the 'We'd like to honor you' requests. I consider that. It's just about that time being in its proper place rather than trying to drag it back out and make it into something. I really do honor that time and think it was an amazing time."
Jane's reunited for the first time in 1997 with a bevy of bassists filling Avery's spot, including Red Hot Chili Peppers' Flea. Meanwhile, the band's last show was in 2003 while on tour supporting the album 'Strays.' Session musician Chris Chaney filled in for Avery on that jaunt.
Avery's debut solo album, 'Help Wanted,' hit shelves earlier this month.
