Scarlett Johansson, 'Falling Down' - Song Exclusive
- Posted on Apr 21st 2008 12:00AM by Mike Spinella
On May 20, Scarlett Johansson's Tom Waits covers album, titled 'Anywhere I Lay My Head,' sees its release, with guest spots from David Bowie and production by TV on the Radio's David Sitek. Spearheaded by Waits' 'Falling Down' -- from 1988's 'Big Time' -- this isn't your average celebrity music makeover."When I had the idea to do an album of Tom Waits songs, before I had even met Dave [Sitek], someone suggested I sing 'Falling Down,'" Johansson tells Spinner. "But I decided it was too corny for me to do just because it has the lyric about 'Scarlett and me.' But Dave hadn't even noticed it. When I mentioned it, he thought the synchronicity was crazy and I never even thought twice about it after that. I was like, 'Yeah, let's do it.'"
"With 'Falling Down,' our pursuit of making one song with both Kermit the Frog and David Bowie on it became a success," Sitek adds.

The nicest thing about Tom Waits is that he cannot be confused with anybody. The ugliest thing about Tom Waits is that he cannot be confused with anybody.
The same goes for Scarlett.

This is hard to tell what her voice is really like, because she's covering TOM WAITS!
That's like trying to sound like Don VITO CORLEONE!
Wow....scarlett has not only been so cocky as to assume she should cover a tom waits song, but an entire album. And in the process apparently is opening to taking down any other icon with her (bowie and kermit)...curious how kermit plays into this album but i cant imagine it is good. this puts scarlett on my list of unlikeable starlets.....

Can you imagine if Chan Marshall was singing instead? It would of been magic.
I would appreciate it if you could all visit my website at www.freewebs.com/nanaskids. I have created the site to keep my grandchildren in my home.

This is decent. Nothing particularly amazing, but we'll see how she does with the others. I have a feeling the haters are expecting some vapid Lindsay Lohan dance track and don't even know who Waits is hahaha. And the producer is Dave Sitek, guitarist from the amazing TV On The Radio, not some crappy guy who would work with Britney.
