On This Date in 1961: Del Shannon's 'Runaway' rises to the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.The Almanac Advises for April 24: "The primary catalyst for runaway children is the need to escape an unstable family life. The main forms of familial dysfunction are parental neglect or abuse. Social upheavals such as divorce or a family death can also create a prime situation for a minor to flee from home, as can substance abuse in either the child or a parent."
