Pete Doherty Gets Early Prison Release

Embattled rocker Pete Doherty will reportedly be freed from prison next week. The Babyshambles frontman, who was jailed last month for probation violations and drug use, is set to be released on May 6 after serving just 29 days of his 14-week sentence.

According to the Daily Mail, Doherty's sentence was halved, with an additional 18 days were deducted as part of a program introduced in the Summer of 2007 to ease prison overcrowding. Former Home Office minister Ann Widdicome said Thursday evening, "Nobody should ever come out that early."

Still, Glastonbury organizers are relieved that the Doherty will still headline the Park Stage at next month's weekend-long UK festival. Because of his incarceration, Doherty was forced to cancel his solo show at the Royal Albert Hall on April 26, and an appearance at the Love Music Hate Racism benefit in Victoria Park on April 27.
