What's That Song in the Psychedelic iPod Commercial?

'Shut Up and Let Me Go' by the Ting Tings

Apple iPod ads have changed almost as much as the iPods themselves, and catapulted a star or two along the way. Right, Feist? Now, Apple is titillating our senses with a psychedelic, 30-second spot of hip-hop dance moves set to the incredibly catchy 'Shut Up and Let Me Go' by the Ting Tings.

The onomatopoeic-named group is comprised of Jules De Martino, who contributes drums and vocals, and Katie White, playing vocals, guitar and bass drum. Hailing from Manchester, England, the two were discovered by Apple at this year's SXSW festival, with an Apple representative in attendance at one of their three shows. "The second we walked offstage," White recalls to Spinner, "a girl approached us excited by our songs and show and said that it had moved her."

That day, the Ting Tings not only landed the ad campaign, but their 'Great DJ' -- a song off their forthcoming album, 'We Started Nothing' -- was named iTunes' Free Single of the Week. No one seems to find this success as surprising as the Ting Tings themselves. "We had no intentions of starting this band," White says. "To hear our tune up there on the iPod ad is mindblowing."
