On This Date in 1985: Bruce Springsteen weds actress Julianne Phillips in her hometown of Lake Oswego, Ore.

The Almanac Advises for May 13: "For many famous and powerful men, the first wife is often looked at as a stepping stone to the 'trophy wife.' This second bride is usually a woman who, in contrast to the former wife, is accomplished in her own right and is considered more of a peer of her husband."
