Hendrix Fans Flock to Poland for World Record

Forget the sex tape: The weirdest Jimi Hendrix news of late might be the fact that nearly 2,000 Jimi fans played 'Hey Joe' in unison at a Hendrix festival in Poland earlier this month, setting a new world record for strumming in unison.

This year's sixth annual Thanks Jimi Festival in southern Poland featured 1951 guitar players -- 70 more than last year's record-breaking number -- lurching the blues together. That's an exponential leap from the paltry 16 guitarists who played together during the festival's inaugural run. (Hell, Axl Rose probably burped out 16 guitarists just this morning.)

In addition to the physical gathering, several more musicians joined virtual-style, connecting online from as far away as Albany, Detroit, Sweden and Australia. "For me the amount of people playing together is not so important as the idea to connect with the whole world," said organizer Leszek Cichowski, who has been playing 'Hey Joe' since he was nine. Which means that he's been playing it about ten times longer than Hendrix ever did himself.
