Rock Almanac: May 20, 2008

On This Date in 1969: Chicago singer-bassist Peter Cetera has his jaw broken by four men while attending a baseball game at Dodger Stadium. The musician's assailants objected to Cetera's long hair as well as his being a Chicago Cubs fan.

The Almanac Advises for May 20: "The Cubs are known throughout baseball for the 'lovable loser' tag both the team and its supporters carry. The Chicago nine have not won a World Series in 100 years, which makes its followers the longest-suffering fans of all and the objects of scorn throughout the big leagues."
