Extreme Take a Cue From the Police

If there was ever a year to come back, this is it. (See: My Bloody Valentine, R.E.M., George Michael, etc.) Hard rockers Extreme will release 'Saudades de Rock' (pronounced 'sow-dodge'), their first new album in thirteen years, in July. In support of the disc, the band -- consisting of vocalist Gary Cherone, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, bassist Pat Badger and new drummer Kevin Figueiredo -- will launch an extensive headlining tour.

"As much as we enjoy recording, for me, I've always loved playing live for the fans," Cherone tells Spinner. "We can't wait to get out there."

As for the album's unique title, Cherone explains the meaning of the Portuguese phrase: "It expresses that longing we've been feeling to play for our fans and be together again," he says. "It's a cool name. It makes me think of the first three Police albums."

Extreme will be joined by Kings X on all dates, with further support on select dates by the Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp, and Living Colour on one date. For the date, the group plans to mix new material with classics from discs like its multi-platinum 1990 disc, 'Pornograffitti', including their 1991 No. 1 smash, 'More Than Words,' and the band's subsequent Top 5 hit 'Hole Hearted.'
