Bono Follows Paul McCartney + More

  • Just two days after it was announced that Paul McCartney received an honorary doctorate from Yale, U2 frontman Bono received an honorary degree from Japan's Keio University for his contribution to music and humanitarian causes.
  • 311 are hard at work on the follow-up to 2005's 'Don't Tread On Me,' which it expects to release in the Spring of 2009. The Omaha-bred reggae-rock band have been in the studio since May 1st with producer Bob Rock, who has helmed discs by the likes of Metallica and Motley Crue, among others.
  • Folk musician Utah Phillips died May 23 of congestive heart failure at his home in Nevada City, CA. He was 73.
  • Tero Smith, better known to fans of the Definitive Jux family as MC and producer Camu Tao, died Sunday (May 25). The Columbus, Ohio native and underground rap sensation -- who had been battling lung cancer for a year-and-a-half -- was only 30.
