Rogue Wave are neither strangers to the Pacific Coast (they hail from Oakland, California) nor summer festivals (they play Bonnaroo in June). To that end, the band felt right at home during their set at this year's Sasquatch festival, set in Washington's breathtaking Gorge Amphitheater. They're turn on the Wookie stage last Sunday culminated in a sparkling rendition of Zune-approved song 'Lake Michigan' that delighted the impressively enormous crowd into a dancing frenzy. And after the fireworks, Rogue Wave singer Zach Schwartz graciously indulged our Sasquatch questionnaire to reveal a serious band crush and what it's like to be a baller backstage.Spinner's Sasquatch Survey
Is this your first time to Sasquatch?
We were here 2 years ago. I love Sasquatch. There are only three stages, so it is easy to see most of the bands and you can't beat the Gorge unless, I guess, they had a festival on that glass walkway in the Grand Canyon.
Any festival-going tips for neophytes?
1. The "Honey Bucket" (porta-potty) is not a place to have a snack.
2. Sunblock can double as hair gel.
3. Smart Water has nice packaging, but will not, in actuality, make you smarter.
4. Bands follow "set lists," so do not be discouraged if they do not play the obscure/popular song you have shouted. They rehearsed and everything.
Favorite act you saw?
The Cure. Hearing 'Pictures of You' and 'Fascination Street' -- ahhh! Bliss me bliss me bliss me. The Heavenly States were cool beans, too -- ended with a nice Replacements cover. Well done.
What's the dumbest example of festival behavior you've seen?
It's funny when you see someone passed out drunk when the first band of the day is playing. How did that plan go down exactly?
In a camping situation, which do you prefer: A) Frisbee B) Football or C) Hacky Sack?
I would say D) Baseball and Glove
Who have you been hanging out with backstage? Any cool amenities back there?
They do it up right Sasquatch. A little beer keg to the left, some tasty dessert-like treats to the right -- snacks all over the place. The catering room is also rather delightful. I hung out with Dave Bazan and the Death Cab boys a bit. We all sat motionless when Robert Smith and the rest of the Cure walked by to take the stage. I think some small part of me is a teenage girl, because I sort of freaked out.
Which of the headliners are you the biggest fan of? Favorite song by them?
See, here we are with the Cure again. Don't even try to get me to say my favorite song by them, because Robert Smith has written so many classics. I can't even really tell you my favorite album. 'The Head on the Door'? 'Disintegration'? 'Wish'? 'Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me'? I don't know! They are too awesome to reduce to favorites. OK, how about ... 'Close to Me.' No. 'High.' Hmmm ... 'Plain Song'?
