Environmental Documentary Turns Into an Opera

When La Scala, the famed opera palace in Milan, first opened in 1778, it was lit by 84 oil lamps. We haven't checked with Al Gore, but we'd assume actually burning oil would not be an effective way to save the planet. The cavernous La Scala converted to electric lighting in the 1880s. Safe to assume the room will be glowing brightly when it premiers 'An Inconvenient Truth' during its 2011 season. Seriously -- La Scala will present an opera based on the former vice president's traveling lecture, documentary and book on the global warming crisis. Sounds positively spine-tingling.
Actually, there's plenty of undeniable epic angst in all those images of collapsing icebergs and malnourished polar bears. Viking helmets would be right at home in the slide show. One question: just how does the Fat Lady reduce her carbon imprint?
