In 1989 'Wild Thing' brought subtle euphemism to the masses, rocketing to No. 2 on the charts and making the raspy rapper a household name. Loc's refinement was even more evident in his second hit, 'Funky Cold Medina,' which contained a recipe for a classy aperitif.

"Wild Thing" sampled the guitar riff from Van Halen's 1978 song "Jamie's Cryin'," for those in the know.

I loved this guy - I thought he was a good rap ambassador. He didn't sing about killing cops, etc. I think his career hit the skids when the Central Park Jogger got raped and the media called it "Wilding." Sounded too much like "Wild Thing."

Tone Loc also appeared in the Andrew Dice Clay movie "The Adventures of Ford Fairlaine," and had his own Saturday morning cartoon show called "C-Bear and Jamal," about a boy and his talking Teddy Bear (Tone Loc was the voice of C-Bear).
