Two-Hit Wonders: Whitesnake

'Here I Go Again' (No. 1, 1987)
'Is This Love' (No. 2, 1987)

To this day no one's quite sure how to account for the massive success of 'Again.' Was it lead singer David Coverdale's sweet, sweet rockin', or was it his sultry spouse's stunning ability to dust the hood of his car using only her torso? Although they hit it big once again with the obligatory power ballad 'Is This Love,' Whitesnake soon went extinct, just like Great White and White Lion.

This is lame. Whitesnake was an AOR band, but even so had at least FOUR Top 40 U.S. hits.

some of you people need to relax...this lighthearted article is based on ONE CHART of sales based on American sales. LIGHTEN UP!!

When Dep Purple called it quits,it was Whitesnake that keep the rock rolling...When the group first came out it was basiclly Deep Purple without Blackmore....I love this band and they are coming to my town soon with Judas Priest which will be a great show and bring back memories from the 80's for me.

Sadly we see once again that the writers are brain dead and lazy. They are misinformed and can't bother to get off their lazy asses and do RESEARCH! Whitesnake was a success long before (and after) their 'radio' hits. It's just too bad radio in the states will only cater to the mindless (and tasteless) drones. Tell me you can't guess what song a station will play when you hear, "We'll be right back with a biggie from...(name ANY band)... after this."

Ya I think its agreed that this is about the dumbest pick possible. Whitesnake was really successful. They had more then two hits. And they are a highly respected band out of their era.

Look everyone. The Spinner staff who wrote this material were only relying on ONE SPECIFIC CHART. They weren't looking at how long a career anyone had. They weren't looking at how many concert dates they play. They weren't looking at anything other than the CHART ENTRIES.
However, the group did have two other Top 40 hits: "Fool for Your Loving" (#37, 1989) and "The Deeper the Love" (#28, 1990).
I would note that most people writing about "one-hit wonders" usually skip over a bunch of songs that made the lower reaches of the Top 40 (to say nothing of the entire Hot 100). There was a book released years ago that looked at the "all-time greatest" one-hit wonders but the author was pretty loose in his list. His basic reasoning was that while an artist might have had a Top 15 hit but the follow-up might only make it to #30-40, the latter song wasn't really a "hit" because most radio stations didn't really play anything below #15 on the Billboard chart. (Of course, he did include the Vapors' hit "Turning Japanese" even though that song never climbed higher than #36! I only heard that song on Casey Kasem's American Top 40 program and saw the video occasionally on some of the early non-MTV video music shows.)

Well, they missed two of those songs, but the other two failed to make the Top 40.
"Still of the Night" peaked at #79 on the Hot 100 and "Give Me All Your Love" stalled out at #48.
