On This Date in 1960: Simply Red lead singer Mick Hucknall is born in Manchester, England.

The Almanac Advises for June 8: "'Gingerism,' in which people with red hair are excoriated and discriminated against, has become an serious problem in British society. People with crimson locks find themselves demeaned and bullied on a regular basis and are the subject of cruel jokes and taunts."
