On This Date in 1972: 'The Candy Man,' Sammy Davis Jr.'s version of the song from the film 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory,' reaches the No. 1 position on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

The Almanac Advises for June 10: "Not only is the amount of sugar contained in a typical candy bar considered bad for one's teeth, the overconsumption of sweets can raise blood sugar levels. This can cause health problems for both diabetics and non-diabetics."
