Breeders Broads Turn 47, Rock for Sweaty NYC

It was a balmy 90 degrees in New York City last night on the way to see the Breeders at downtown club Webster Hall. What we in attendance -- and surely the band in question -- didn't anticipate was that it would be a balmy 95 degrees in the venue. That's right -- no air conditioning!

But Kim and Kelley Deal didn't let the sticky situation get them down. Rock's most adorable twin sisters (no worries, Tegan and Sara -- you're second in line), who celebrated their 47th birthday last night, treated the thoroughly soaked audience to an extensive set of Breeders songs -- not to mention the Amps' 'Pacer' and a few covers, including a darling version of fellow Dayton, Ohioans the Tasties' 'It's the Love.'

New songs from their latest release, 'Mountain Battles,' sounded even better live, and old favorites like 'Cannonball' and 'I Just Want to Get Along' killed. And when sometime violinist Carrie Bradley joined them for 'Drivin' on 9,' it was pure nostalgic magic. The night ended with a surprise chocolate birthday cake, a crowd-sung 'Happy Birthday' and, appropriately, some hilarious-slash-loving middle-finger gestures.
