Potent Quotables: Gwen, Gavin Go to the Dark Side
"We don't know if it's a boy or a girl. We are going to put him [or her] in a black room. It'll be a goth baby."--Gavin Rossdale

Is this a joke?
they really cant be serious or they have real mental problems.
Erinat 6-15-2008
If this is true, they should be neutered.

YES PRETTY SILLY BUT TYPICAL SINGER/CELEBRITIES...NOTHING SURPRISES ME............BLACK IS PRETTY BLAH AND NEGATIVE FOR A BABY...........A BABY LOVES TO SEE BRIGHT COLORS...POSITIVE FOR THE THE BRAIN.......THAT COLOR WILL ONLY FRIGHTEN THE BABY.....YUK

TYPING IN ALL CAPS DOES NOTHING BUT MAKE YOU LOOK LESS INTELLIGENT THAN YOU ALREADY ARE.

lol I doubt it will frighten the baby, but it sure won't stimulate it's mind for active developement.

Who cares what color they decide to paint the babie's room!!! It's their child & their money.

In response to the comment erin left about the rossdales being neutered... I would just like to say thats the most rediculous thing I've heard today, I work in customer service for a cell phone company so I hear it all! First of all I doubt they were serious about painting the room black, but IF they were... who cares? Why does a babies room have to be pink blue or some other rediculous pastel color? Hell who cares if its pink and purple polka dots for all i care.. all that should matter is that the baby has a safe stable living environment, a roof over its head, food in its belly, and people to love it. If they want to paint the room black go for it.. its not like painting it black will turn the kid into the anti-christ.

do you think that they're being serious? please, their response is an answer given to the tool of the person who asked the lame question.
what's amazing is how many people immediately assume it's a real answer that a celeb will give.

You people are ignorant. Painting the room black is a good idea. Newborns can't like bright colors. They can't see them. All they can see is white and black for a while after they are born. So painting a room black or white will stimulate their mind.

I can't think of any more unstimulating color than black but if Gwen and Gavin want to paint their child's nursery black, whatever. That's their problem and as far as newborns seeing color: they can color as early as 2 weeks. They are happy looking at white & black AND colors. I think if they really want to stimulate their babies brain, they will hopefully put a little accent color in the room if the walls are black.

I don't see anything wrong with a black room for a baby . hasn't anyone heard that infants are drawn to black and white objects .it stimulates them and is why they started to make black and white mobiles for babys... the kid will be fine..Infants don't have any negative conatatons toward any color , person or think.. it's growing up in this world that does that
Cathyat 6-15-2008
Sorry. I don't mean they can pick up a crayon and color. I meant they can SEE color.
Kathyat 6-15-2008
Understanding that Gwen Stephanie does wear most times, Black, White or Red, why not a black room, hoping that one wall only is black, with stripes of paper on half the wall with a white fence like bottom and red or light blue or white drapes, white crib, changing table, wardrobe, etc, or somethings in red, yellow-oranges, pastel or other bright colors to liven up the room, stuffed animals, or nets to hold the animals, something that will sooth the child, not cause the infant to feel depressed most times from the atmosphere of the room.
As much as I realize Gwen and Gavin are alternative rockers, and enjoy wearing black or dark clothing, they should want the child to feel the liveliness and warmth of their home, not to feel intimidated or depressed! So surprised that Gwen whom is lively and full of life, would want this.

Why in the world would you paint a Baby's room Black....Why not wait and see what the sex of the baby is going to be and than decorate. That would be the smart thing to do. Babys love to explore and look at different colors. It would be too dark of a room. all i have to say is Poor Baby.
Kathyat 6-15-2008
Another thought, perhaps they are old souls and are reminded of the 1960's and want strove lights, psychodelic mood lighting, or films flashing on the very dark and black walls? With Neon flowers and tie dye paintings, abstract or pop art?
Hope they do think of the child, and that it would be enlightening to allow the child a chance to develop in an atmosphere that brings cheerfulness and warmth.
Don't intimidate, frighten or depress a new life in this way. When they venture into the pre-teen/teen years, they may regret this choice!
Kathyat 6-15-2008
Alright, if they want to have safari like theme, zebras, leopards, etc, but bring in the green and browns of the jungle or rain forest, yellow, red or orange tropical birds, but not to make an infant feel isolated, intimidated or depressed. Are they going with perhaps a Spanish or French style, dark walls, rugs and bright, heavy red or gold curtains?

DSS , PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS NUTCASE GWEN STEFANI NOW !!

Pastels do not stimulate an infant. Contrasting colors like black and white are perfect. I read a book years ago about how to have a smarter baby and it suggested white w/black geometrical designs. We used a crib set that was white with black dots and puppies wearing red bow ties. Same for the spinning mobile. Rug was colbalt blue and primary colors for rubber storage bins of toys. All of our children talked early (the first clearly said three words by six months old; each spoke sentences by one year) and I often think of how anxious their father and I were to have them stimulated and vocal when these now teen-aged boys are restless and talking back. :)

Gwen & Gaven are great parents to their little boy. It is obvious the comment was made tongue in cheek. It's expressing an opinion that it is silly to try and determine what your baby's personality will be. I agree completely, and think it's stupid for example when mother's push that princess crap on their daughters. Maybe their daughters like bugs!
