Vampire Weekend Encourage Pogo Dancing at Bonnaroo

As with a lot of the other hipster bands that were invited to play this year's Bonnaroo, Vampire Weekend seemed all too eager to acknowledge the festival's jamband roots and, in fact, delight in it. Drummer Chris Tomson didn't only non-ironically sport a bootleg Phish shirt while walking around the artist lounge -- he kept it on for the band's entire set. Midway through performing most of the songs from Vampire Weekend's eponymous (and sole) CD, frontman Ezra Koenig pointed it out to the audience. "This is our first Bonnaroo," Koenig said, before revealing that Tomson actually attended the very first Bonnaroo in 2002 as a fan. "And he's a Phish fan!" announced Koenig. "So we can all be friends!"
Getting into the communal spirit of the festival, Koenig encouraged the audience to dance. "If you can, I recommend it," he said. "And the best way to dance to this one is the pogo."
He was talking about the song, 'A-Punk'. But it could've been any of their songs, really. The crowd pretty much stuck to the noodle-dancing they're most familiar and comfortable with. After all, this is Bonnaroo, dude.
