On This Date in 1933: Vernon Presley elopes with Gladys Smith to Pontotoc County, Miss. A year and a half later, their only child, Elvis, is born (a twin was stillborn).

The Almanac Advises for June 17: "Parents of only children are usually very doting to the point of projecting huge goals on them that may be unrealistic. Impressing upon them that they are all but royalty may set them up for a fall in adult life."
