Skipper.. the lower-level, strictly musicians, do only make money off of crappy lyrics. But higher-ups, like "50 cent", "Jay-z", "P. diddy" are businessmen, entrepreneurs, moguls. They create clothing lines, and recording studios. They produce records, and endorse products and advertise them. All this adds to the massive fortune they have created for themselves. Of course, they have a team of suits that gets their deals and negotiates for them.
