On This Date in 1979: 'Boys Don't Cry,' the second single by the Cure, is released in the U.K.

The Almanac Advises for June 23: "There has been a shift in what behaviors are acceptable in boys. When once it was considered a sign of weakness for a boy to be sensitive or express emotions, many parents encourage their sons to open up but in ways that recognize his unique maleness."
