On This Date in 1966: After having an affair with bandmate Denny Doherty, Michelle Phillips, wife of Mamas and the Papas leader John Phillips, is kicked out of the singing group. She is temporarily replaced by Jill Gibson, the girlfriend of the quartet's producer, Lou Adler, but rejoins the group in August.

The Almanac Advises for June 28: "Even after more than 50 years on television, soap operas remain as popular as ever. This is despite (or because of) the clearly delineated heroes and villains, as well as the implausibly scandalous romantic scenarios presented."
