Devendra Banhart, 'Carmensita' -- Video Premiere

For his latest single, Venezuelan folk rocker Devendra Banhart sends up low-budget Bollywood flicks with a clip that is full of dancing, hammy special effects and tongue-in-cheek subtitles with questionable English translations. Banhart plays a prince who must use his snake-shooting eyes, knife throwing prowess and "rebellious beard" to save the a beautiful princess. Real-life girlfriend Natalie Portman plays the damsel in distress, and clearly has some fun with the role. Take a look. Buy it on iTunes.

what the HECK is that?!?!??!?!?!?! This is very much a Mel Ferrer-Audrey Hepburn thing, isnt it? the princess and the rat? Natalie and Audrey look very similar, even in some of the shots in this video. and the same with the "snake"-like Mel and Devendra. Devendra is trying to get his 15 minutes of fame off of Natalie's coattails, just like Mel and Audrey. Mel's career was fading fast, so's Devendra's. I can go on and on. This relationship is sick and disgusting, and will only make lovely Natalie's reputation become worse and worse, until it finally sinks into oblivion...it's a shame.

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT?!??!?!?!?!?!?! This will ruin Natalie's reuptation for sure! It's a shame that she's surrounding herself with "snake"-like people such as Devendra, who is trying to get his 15 minutes of fame off of her coattails. Please Natalie, see this for what it truely is!!!

She was a woman i really admired for her ability to be a great actress without using nudity. But this is almost enough blasphemes material for me to stop my interest in her.

"PORKMAN" needs to get a life. She is a non-american that doesn't respect this country or the president or the war on terror. She is another 'ho' we have to deal with.

It was an interesting video and at times funny. I like the chorus, pretty catchy. I don't know what the hell people are talking about as far as Natalie ruining her career over some obscure video. She's an artist/actress and don't most actresses go for weird, "artsy" guys(?). Plus she was in a video w/ Paul McCartney and it was worse than this, don't think that ruined either of they're careers. You guys are so mediocre sitting around worrying about someone such as Natalie Portman "ruining" her career or not being"American" enough. By the way, she went to an Ivy League school and earned a degree( I do believe), so she can easily fall back on something other than acting, JUST IN CASE this here video ruins it for her.

I can't believe the concrete republicans on here. Someone complained of the "blasphemes" of the video and called NAtalie a no supporter of the president and his so called "war on terror" I say you go NAtalie. Also back to point of these posts, I loved the video fun and quirkey! I think She and he are both very talented!

It's certainly a silly video but I found it mildly entertaining nonetheless. Ms Portman you're a barve woman to be in somehting so silly, way to go.

This thing was EXTREMELY weird and disturbing. First of all, the Banhart guy needs to pull up his pants! Eww! No one wants to see that! Not only did Natalie look stupid in this, but she also acted like the whole charade was stupid as well (which it was, needless to say). I'm pretty sure that this Ivy Leaguer will regret this video in the future. I'd be quite embarrassed to see this video if I practiced Hinduism, as it seemed to be almost mocking the religion.

What the hell was that?? Is it a joke?? I don't see anything sexy about that video or Natalie Portman's boyfriend. He looks a little creepy!!
