What's That Song in the Volvo Commercials?
'I Adore You,' by Melpo Mene
"They said they needed a song with love and emotions," Erik Mattiason, the brainchild behind the operation, told Spinner of his song's inception. "The next day, I wrote 'I Adore You' [and] they responded in 20 minutes and said they were in love." Mattiason, who says he was influenced by Nirvana, has been writing songs since age 12. He signed with Imperial Recordings, home to Jose Gonzales, in 2003 and will release a new album, 'Bring the Lions Out,' in August.
"Lost in a daydream of blue/I feel so free," he sings, as a classy-looking couple witnesses an effortless transformation of a sedan into a swanky convertible. "And then it's like I fall from the sky/Everything that I see is you," he continues -- an appropriate message of transformation that the 28-year-old singer knows all too well. "It's very exciting for a small artist working as a postman," he told us in reference to his previous occupation. But the romance subsided, much to our delight, when he admitted, "Some people think that music is created in a romantic ritual under the moon. I was in pajamas. Getting it out on paper is just hard work."
