Rock Almanac: July 25, 2008

On This Date in 1965: Bob Dylan is jeered by audience members at the Newport Folk Festival when he appears onstage playing an electric guitar and backed by members of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

The Almanac Advises for July 25: "Electric blues songs often tell tales of hardship and oppression. Electrifying the bluesman's guitar and adoipting a backing combo not only increased the volume of the music, it amplified the message at the same time."
