As a teen girl of 14-15 when this song was popular it gave me courage and strength and a boost of selfesteem when I needed it. It may be "corny" but it helped me, and I am sure more girls than myself.

I agree with you Kim. This song got me out of an abusive marriage in a time when women weren't able to get credit in their own names! The critics may want to think about the social atmosphere at the time this song was released.

excellent song...these idiots would'nt know a good song if it bit them on the ass....

If it's good enough for Rush Limbaugh and Dittoheads as a Feminazi Anthem, it's good enough for me!!

How can they judge these songs as the worst when some of them went to the top of the charts?
For that matter, every song that was ever recorded could be considered bad if they had been recorded before these critics were born.

haha. i totally 100% agree with you.
it seems like "Spinner Staff" doesn't know half the songs they are writing about.
Anyaat 8-07-2008
Im also agreeing; the person making this list must have been snorting coke while writing this.
More than half the songs on here i love so much.

"We won't argue with its social significance."
Good. Don't. It may be a bit corny, but it did have social significance, and it's realy not a terrible song. Especially not at No. 6

lmao this song is good but corny at the same time, i remeber taking a road trip and my mom was playing it and i was thinkin oh great this song and then my nephue busts out sings " I AM WOMAN!" man i wish i could of taped that!
Hey Alyssa!at 8-08-2008
Spinner Staff, you seriously need to take a look at your pieces before posting them to a public blog. You obviously did minimal to no research on the public's reaction to "I Am Woman".
This list is bogus and a waste of everyone's time.

I agree totally. The song for me was and is wonderfull, powerful and FUN to sing (I'm a gay man..) My Mom was Pro-ERA in the 70's and she used to blast this on the stereo all the time. Wanna list a BAD song Spinner? How about PAC-MAN Fever from the early 80s...
I don't usually like to judge music but that was CRAP!
stevekaylat 3-23-2009
agreed, but the song does suck!
shananignzat 8-08-2008
I've said it before and I'll say it again, just because a song was "popular" does not mean that it's good.
daboyzruleperiodat 8-08-2008
THIS SONG SAYS IT ALL- AND IT WILL NEVER DIE
I BET YOU $$$ THAT IT WAS A MAN WHO PUT THIS SONG ON THE LIST OF "WORST SONGS"

I saw Helen in concert just before she had her baby. She gave us a nice profile while singing this song, funny as hell. She was a great talent and this was a good song in its day. I would guess the "staff" couldn't write a tune or carry one in a bucket.
krayerangel2at 8-08-2008
All right for radical women libbers...and I guess ok for the time it came out, but a bit too much for my taste.
