On This Date in 1991: "Super Freak" hitmaker Rick James and his future wife, Tanya Hijazi, are arrested and charged with holding a woman hostage and forcing her to perform sex acts while torturing her with a crack pipe.

The Almanac Advises for August 2: "If you are a budding writer, a good course of action is to write autobiographically. Stick to what you know."
