Christian Rapper's Got Beef With Sagging

He's clearly not afraid to expose himself. Dallas rapper Dooney Da Priest is relaunching his finger-wagging anthem 'Pull Your Pants Up' with the release of his album of the same name. The Christian rapper's diatribe against the long-running saggy-jeans fad first drew attention last fall, when Da Priest (real name Duwayne Brown) turned Dallas deputy mayor pro tem Dwaine Caraway's "Anti-Sagging Pants Campaign" into an ill-fitting, gay-baiting rap.
"I think it's gay but some of y'all think it's cool/ Walking around showing your behind to other dudes," Dooney whooped. The sentiment landed him a buttload of media attention, including an appearance on 'Dr. Phil.'
For the album release, the offending reference has been changed ("I think it's rude"). Which is not to say the rapper is sidestepping controversy altogether. Saggin', he points out, "is the N-word spelled backwards."
Though the two men are not officially linked, Caraway, the Dallas pol, has said the anti-saggin' effort is about respect. "Who's to say what the generation that's looking at this generation will do after these guys?" he wonders.
Judging by his lyrics, Da Priest might have an idea: "Might as well walk around with your pants off." Which would truly be an anti-fashion statement.
