On This Date in 1986: Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen makes his return behind the drum kit at the Monsters of Rock festival in England after losing his left arm in an automobile accident.The Almanac Advises for August 17: "The 'phantom limb' phenomenon occurs when an amputee feels the physical sensation that his missing appendage is still attached to his body. A person experiencing this syndrome often reports experiencing normal movement of the limb as well as pain."
