On This Date in 1906: The Victor Talking Machine Co. introduces the Victrola gramophone, which retails for $200, which would be more than $3,500 today.The Almanac Advises for August 22: "Audiophiles looking for the 'next big thing' in music technology are willing to spend top dollar on the latest sound format. These users often pay a penalty for being an 'early adopter' -- in other words, for being the first to buy an item that in a few years will likely be made better and cost less."
