On This Date in 1946: Queen frontman Freddie Mercury is born Farrokh Bulsara of Zoroastrian parents of Indian origin in Zanzibar.The Almanac Advises for September 5: "Queen Elizabeth, Britain's Queen Mother and the parent of the current monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, was the last Empress of India. Her dominion ceased when India gained its independence from the United Kingdom in 1947."
