Tegan Quin Co-Headlines Benefit With Author Augusten Burroughs

Tegan and Sara's Tegan Quin joined author Augusten Burroughs ('Running With Scissors') on Thursday night at New York City's Housing Works Bookstore to co-headline Spin.com's first-ever Liner Notes, a celebration of music and literature, and also a fundraiser for Housing Works, Inc., the nation's largest minority-controlled AIDS service provider. Sitting beside an aw-shucks Burroughs and in front of a sold-out crowd, the Sister Quin performed 'His Love,' a song she wrote for the audio book of Burroughs' latest novel, 'A Wolf at the Table.' Quin admitted to having difficulty when it came to writing the song, attributing it to her self-proclaimed -- and half-jokingly so -- narcissism. The words came, however, when Quin sat down to write Burroughs a letter. "Augusten, if I write something beautiful/Will it squash the hurt that's living deep inside of you?" she sings.

"What was amazing was it to me," Burroughs said onstage of the first time he listened to the song, which was just after delivering a eulogy. "It was so profoundly empathetic. I lost it. It was beautiful."

While there was plenty of mutual admiration, Quin and Burroughs didn't leave it all to the logrolling. Among other topics of conversation: incestuous memoirs, short aunts and unfortunate hair. We suggest waiting for the video, which Spin.com plans to post at an as-yet-unnamed date. Until then, enjoy some photos and watch Quin perform 'His Love.'
