On This Date in 1989: Rapper Keith "Cowboy" Wiggins, a member of Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, dies from drug-related causes at age 28.

The Almanac Advises for September 8: "When someone states that a cowboy 'died with his boots on', it means that he has expired in the prime of his career, often due to tragic or violent circumstances. There is an added implication that he has died doing exactly what he enjoyed."
