Michael Franti, Ziggy Marley Bring Power to the Peaceful

Michael Franti and Spearhead hosted their 10th annual free music festival, '911 Power to the Peaceful,' in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park this past weekend. The event drew nearly 50,000 people and featured special acoustic sets by Warren Haynes and Ziggy Marley, yoga instruction and lots of peaceful speakers speaking about peaceful things. And although his father was known for singing about peaceful causes as well, Ziggy Marley came onstage during Franti's performance for a rendition of his father's purely romantic-minded 'Stir It Up.'

"Somebody asked me if I'm here to play for protestors, and I said 'No, I'm here to play for everybody,'" said Franti. "Because I really believe that no matter who gets elected president of this country, it's going to take the efforts of all 6 billion of us to get us to change the direction we're headed."

Telling the audience that he was happy to play for them regardless of their individual political beliefs, Franti confessed that he had just gotten back from the Republican National Convention in St. Paul. Clarifying, he added, "I was on the outside."
