Just Say Maybe: 20 Songs That Might Be About Drugs

'Love Is the Drug,' Roxy Music sang. Yet when it comes to rock 'n' roll songs, drugs are often the drug. The creators of the following alleged dope ditties almost invariably deny it, so we're placing them on trial. Guilty or not? The question itself is intoxicating.

'Got to Get You Into My Life'
--The Beatles (1966)

The accusation: It's Paul McCartney's thinly veiled desire to sample the forbidden fruit.

The defense: It's just a silly love song.

The verdict: Guilty. As McCartney admitted, it is his paean to "some other kind of mind." "If I am true I'll never leave," he sang. With songs such as 'Hi Hi Hi' and his Japanese pot bust, he has stayed true to his beloved for years.

I was looking for definative insight and all I got was a judgement on each song based on the perception of how "clean" is the artist. Just a waste of my time.

that is exactly what is wrong with this country. all the little marists from the 60's college campi spouting their socialist agendas. a little advise from the heartland, mr. marx, don't show yourself here. we still cling to our guns and religion unlike barry the kenyan and his ilk.

"Distribute the wealth?"
What a moronic tribute to a moronic campaign (by both major parties). Who's wealth are you distributing? And who will you choose to control the "distribution?" What if you don't like the favorites of those empowered to redistribute this "wealth?"
The Age of Enlightenment and/or of John Locke posited that the sole valid object of government was to protect individual liberty and rights to private property, which resulted in untold amounts of wealth that have benefited the entire human population.
Don't believe in private property, even though its protected by the U.S. and all state constitutions? Don't believe in constitutional forms of government? Or believe that constitutions chosen by constitutional majorities can validly be rewritten by minorities or by individual leaders?
OK, that's fine - that pretty well leaves you with the stellar performers like . . . fill in your favorite socialist, no matter what decade or generation (Che, Chavez, Castro?). As long as you're willing to live by the actual results they deliver(ed) and not just their rhetoric.
"Free" is way easy to sell - its the basis for con jobs through-out recorded history. But, "free" is tremendously difficult to deliver, and even more so over the long haul. In fact, its never been done.

Paul should excessivly sue the writer of this trash for being so excessivly late. It 1966 ('till I figue about 1967) it "might" have been "newsworthy"
Today, it would be considered fermenting trash. Hope he doesn't get paid by AOL for writing this crap.

No Jenna..."Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds" is a song about a picture that John Lennon's son Julian had drew when he was 6 yrs.old....Julian supposedly told his father that the picture was a girl called Lucy who was in the sky with diamonds. Anything else?

My God. This story only confirms my thought that this country is preoccupied with making stuff up to get a headline. Are we all so "drugged" that this is all we see? I am a 60's child. I graduated from HS in 1970. Unless you were there, you couldn't possibly understand what did go on then. The truth be known, it wasn't my grneration selling the drugs at first, it was my parent's generation. I say we should get the hell off any kind of drugs and be real.
